AIIMS entrance for dental graduates
Dental graduates reach AIIMS for postgraduate study in two main ways: MDS seats filled through INI CET, and research degrees through the AIIMS PhD entrance examination. AIIMS no longer holds a separate postgraduate entrance test, so MDS admission runs through INI CET, conducted by AIIMS New Delhi.

MDS at AIIMS through INI CET
MDS seats at AIIMS are filled through INI CET, the examination AIIMS New Delhi conducts for the Institutes of National Importance. It is separate from NEET MDS. Read our guide to INI CET for dental graduates for the pattern, the marking scheme and how to prepare.
The AIIMS PhD entrance
AIIMS also admits research scholars through its PhD entrance examination, which is notified separately from INI CET. Dr. Jishnu Mohan, founder of SketchRoot, secured All India Rank 1 in the AIIMS New Delhi PhD entrance examination in 2025 in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Syllabus, eligibility and dates change with each notification, so treat the official AIIMS notice as your only source for them.
General advice that holds for any research entrance: build fluency in reading journal papers in your speciality, revise basic biostatistics and study design, and practise explaining a study in a few sentences.
What AIIMS style questions look like
Published guides describe AIIMS style papers as scenario driven, image rich and less tolerant of one line memorisation. The practical response is to study each topic as a connected story: presentation, investigation, diagnosis, management and complications in one frame. That is how SketchRoot scenes are drawn.
SketchRoot is being built now. Each high yield topic becomes one illustrated scene that carries the classification, mechanism, features and management together, an idea rooted in the memory palace method. Join early access to be told the moment the first sketches go live.
